Hayden with a 45 -50 kg Toothfish.
Another first for me at Riversdale Beach today, 1.8 kg John Dory caught out on the Uriti Bank. Been a year of firsts, with first blue nose and first gem fish all coming on board earlier this year, incredible that I’ve fished here for over 20 years and never heard of these three fish being caught. Shows that times are changing, with more fish around in this amazing fishery. With some people also landing Marlin and Blue Fin Tuna this year, surely the Wairarapa Coast is fast becoming the best fishery in New Zealand…shush don’t tell anyone!
Of course all caught on Wild Blue Wild Blue Tackle and a big thanks to the Riversdale Beach Fishing Club for supporting fishing on our coast and always having someone around to weigh in your fish.

Out and About - Rob's big day!!! EPIC!!
A week ago I saw a window where the weather, sea, and fishing calendars all seemed to marry up for yesterday so I hatched a plan to head down to Ocean Beach and it didn't disappoint. Arriving at 7 am the sea was alive with huge boil-ups the size of tennis courts running right along the water's edge with bait fish being washed in and out on the small waves. To say the fishing was good is an understatement, it was on fire . Every bait was munched on as soon as it hit the water. As soon as a boil up went past the snapper was following along behind cleaning up the leftover scraps. It was quite amazing. I ended up only fishing with one rod as I couldn't keep up with re baiting and getting fish into the chillibin. I managed to land 16 snapper with 6 going back in the drink to live another day with 2 of the keepers being 3.2 and 3 kg on the club scales. 2 gurnard and between 30 to 40 kahawai with all bar 1 being put back in the ocean.
For those that are keen Dion and I will be planning a trip down that way one weekend before winter for any club members that are keen on doing some land based fishing. It will be sea and weather dependant as to when this will happen. The more the merrier, even you boat based ballbags can join in. We will keep you posted when that opportunity comes up

2022/23 Club Prize Giving!
On the evening of Saturday 23 September 2023 the Riversdale Beach Fishing Club held their annual prize-giving event to acknowledge and celebrate the various category winners of the 2022-2023 season.
While the weather and sea conditions over the past 12 months had affected the number of club days that were held, the competition for the top prizes was keenly fought, and some good catches were presented for weighing in during the year.
Notable and prize-winning boat-based catches included Simon Johnston’s 17.4 kg Groper, Rick McLeod’s 9.0 kg Trumpeter, Darryl Payne’s 9.2 kg Tuna and Kim Dawes’ 18.8 kg Kingfish. As for the land-based catches, prize-winners included Rob O’Neal for a 3.5 kg snapper, Wayne Adcock for a 4.3 kg Moki and Kim Henson for a 10.7 kg Kingfish.

Now they have done it again this time his son Nick and his crew on board Tanifar have landed two barrels a 63.35kg and a 58.65kg. Congratulations to these boys. They have certainly put alot of hours into chasing game fish off Castlepoint.
Well done.

What an awesome-looking fish.
Thanks, Roly for sending in
Hi Kim,
I have some pictures and a story to share if you want to post anything on the club's Facebook page.
I hauled my boat to Opunake on Friday to stay with a mate and reacquainted with the guy I bought my boat from 9 years ago who came out with us for an epic days snapper fishing off Opunake.
It's a great and very supportive little community which is awesome to see and fish.
Cheers
Roly
It blows me away that we are so lucky that we have an awesome coast. The variety of fish we can catch in the Wairarapa Coast. I recently returned from a trip down south where I saw plenty of Blue Cod and oysters. And my husband fished in the Coromandel earlier in the year catching just Snapper.
Today I had club member Kim H txt me to say he's bringing his catch to weigh in. The variety of fish caught, Kahawai, his heaviest weighing in at 2.90 kg, Moki, he also caught Trevelly. But the fish in the picture was by far the greatest catch for land /surfcasting a beautiful Kingfish 10.68 kg
Well Done Kimbo!
The fish looked amazing Kimbo had them on ice and they looked well looked after.
Keoni out fishing with Uncle Ralph in the school break weighing a very nice Snapper 2.34 kg
Well done Keoni!
